Vote for Bradley

Bradley_King_thumb.jpgWhy would you like to be a staff representative?

"After such a difficult 18 months for staff, it’s more important than ever to have your opinions heard by senior managers. I want to stand for election because I’m a big believer in everyone having a genuine say in how their organisation is run.

"I’d be your direct line to senior management and my primary role would be to represent your thoughts and opinions, rather than my own.

"I’m also keen to expand on my knowledge of different areas within NAViGO and meet new people who I may not see on a regular basis.

"On a personal level, I’d also like to build my self-confidence, communication skills and understanding of mental health care and social enterprises in general."

Tell us about you and your experience.

"I joined NAViGO in 2019 as the Digital Content Assistant working in the communications team. This means I’m responsible for things like social media, the NAViGO website, video and photography, as well as assisting the rest of the comms team with things like design work, press releases, events and print materials.

"Before joining NAViGO, I’d experienced poor mental health for a number of years and had lost one of my close friends through suicide.

"I’m passionate about the job I do and its importance in raising awareness, changing perception and reaching out to people who may be in the same position that I – or he – was, and feel we’ve made great strides as an organisation in doing this.

"I want to stand for election because I:

  • believe in fairness, representation and social justice for ALL staff members regardless of race, gender, sexual identity or any other factors
  • want to improve my knowledge of services across NAViGO and how they work
  • would like to build my own self-belief and learn more about how mental health care is set up and structured within NAViGO and wider
  • am passionate about social enterprises being a tool for good in the local area and feel there’s more we can do to engage with the community

"Outside of work, I’m a Grimsby Town fanatic, massive music fan and struggling house plant parent. I also have a weird knowledge of national flags. Don’t take the mick; my colleagues already do!"

If you are elected as a representative, what do you want to achieve?

"I don’t see what I personally want to achieve as particularly important. I’d be there as a vehicle to help staff get their opinions, ideas and thoughts listened to and will be approachable.

"However, I think there is lots of work for the organisation to do on issues like men’s mental health, BAME representation, loneliness and engaging with the wider population in North East Lincolnshire and I’d like to be a bigger part of that."

How do you intend to engage with the membership to ensure their voices are heard?

"I will ensure that the membership is consulted on matters to be discussed at membership board prior to the meeting taking place, so I can actively fulfil my role as your representative. I don’t have an agenda; I’d be there to represent you as a staff member.

"As part of the communications team, I think there are lots of ways that the organisation can communicate more effectively with you – but this must be two-way process which I hope to further facilitate.

"I’d like to reform staff opinion on the reps, the membership and membership board and make the staff rep position a vehicle to help get things done that will benefit staff across all roles and bandings."
