A life is lost through suicide every two hours in the UK.
Anyone can suffer from suicidal thoughts but every one of us can make a difference.
The Talk Suicide campaign has been created by the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership to reduce the stigma around talking about suicide by raising awareness of free suicide prevention training available from the Zero Suicide Alliance.
We want everyone in North East Lincolnshire to complete the training. That's our ambition. But we're specifically looking to engage with businesses where talking is an unofficial part of the job role! We're thinking barbers, tattoists, bar staff, delivery drivers and more. If you want to get involved, fill in the form on this page.
Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership is a collaboration of 28 different health and social care organisations, including us, who are working together to improve health and care across our area.
We're committed to bringing North East Lincolnshire's suicide rate down and keeping it low.
Local people have 24/7 access to the crisis team, who are responsible for responding to and dealing with mental health emergencies in the community. We also work in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Mind to facilitate Safespace - an out-of-hours crisis cafe for those feeling low or lonely in the evenings.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many pressures on the personal and professional lives of people in North East Lincolnshire, so we've also worked with partners to set up the 24/7 coronavirus support line, too.
We're also leading the way in research, too. We have embraced and embedded the use of CAMS - the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality - in our services, and continue to develop our understanding of suicidal thoughts and behaviour.
We're also keen to engage at a grassroots level, with local businesses - from barbers to tattoists and from taxi drivers to bar staff. While no one in these roles is usually a mental health professional, they are the people we often strike up conversations with, so it's important they can identify any signs of suicidal thoughts and signpost to specialist support.
We've already formed close ties with a number of North East Lincolnshire businesses to support the Talk Suicide campaign.
These include community-based housing provider Lincolnshire Housing Partnership, Grimsby brewery and taproom Docks Beers, and barber shop DC's Barbers.
These organisations have committed to having their staff complete suicide prevention training in order to protect both their colleagues and customers.
The suicide prevention training is free and you an get it done on your lunch break - it takes only 20 minutes to complete.
You'll learn how to:
See: Identify the signs of when someone might be suffering from suicidal thoughts and behaviour.
Say: Feel comfortable speaking out about suicide in a supportive manner.
Signpost: Signpost anyone suffering to the correct services and support.
If you're a local organisation who is interested in getting involved in Talk Suicide or future mental health campaigns, we'd love to hear from you.
Complete the form on this page and we'll get back to you as soon as we can with more information and a full suite of print and web resources to share in your buildings and on your own social media channels.
